Update #1 from Team
Tuesday, 29 May 2007
After 3 days of traveling, we finally made it into Huancapi. We´ve had numerous troubles with the trucks, but God is faithful and we still arrived here safely on sunday night. Last night the people came out to see the ´gringos´ and why we were here. Some thought we were spies from Chile, but after we talked to them, they realized we are here to help. This morning we broke off into separate groups. We took 2 trucks to Umaro this morning. 6 will stay in Umaro to spend time with the people, build relationships and prayer walk the village. There are 5 that are currently hiking to Bella Vista from Umaro and then to Pariamarca. There they will gather information regarding how many believers are there, what churches are present, etc. in order to relay to the summer missionaries so they are better prepared to minister to those people. Be in prayer for the hikers that they have the strength and perseverence to get there and back.

The rest of the group is staying here in Huancapi. We are doing ministry in the schools and in the clinics in order to build relationships with the leaders of the community. Be in prayer that the people are receptive and that we find the ´person of peace´ in order to continue what we´ve started. Tonight we (the Huancapi team) are having a service at the local Evangelical church. Hopefully we can get some new people to come.

That is all for now. Please lift the group up in prayer as often as possible. The Lord is working here, and it is amazing to see it happen. I will update this as often as possible, but it is hard to have time to do it because the internet here is so limited. God bless.

Success at the Silent Auction
Tuesday, 24 April 2007

Check out our new video >>

Last Saturday, Crossroads' sanctuary was given a facelift and converted into a banquet hall for our Silent Auction. As team members directed the nights events, guests flocked to the bidding tables and were treated with a three course pasta dinner, and a fresh video by Tyler Yowell about our mission to Peru. Testimonies by several team members and prayer over the team all created a wonderful atmosphere to benefit this years mission. The night went off without a hitch, and people came with gracious hearts and left with full bellies and lots of good stuff.

Welcome
Friday, 06 April 2007

Welcome to the new webhome for The EdgePeru. It is launching just in time to highlight what our 2007 Mission Team has been up to. We have finally moved full swing into fundraising and purchasing flights and are excited about what this summer brings.

At the moment we have around 15 people from Hampton Roads preparing to leave their living rooms and serve in Peru this summer. A handfull of students are commited to spending an entire month in the field while the rest of the team will be in country for a little over a week. It is exciting to see how many people have come together to embrace Quechua people of Peru.

Though having a large team is a fortunate problem to have, it will cost a great deal for all 15 to travel...$25,000 to be exact. To lighten the financial burden from the team, we have began our fundraising campaign already. We are in the midst of planning a Silent Auction Banquet, where we hope that we can offer premium items for supporters to bid on, and therefore take away from their giving experience. Our prayers at the moment are that local businesses, large and small, will be gracious enough to provide items that will make our goals possible. If you would like to help us in this effort and know of a business willing to give, please contact us! Or if you would simply like to hear more about our fundraising campaign, feel free to drop us a line.

We hope you enjoy the new site, and will continue to visit it often to hear about the exciting things happening here and in Umaro, Peru.
